Abstract

Objectives: Functional Capacity Evaluation methods (FCE) claim for measure the functional physical ability of a person to perform work-related work. The purpose of the present study was up systematically read the print with the reliability and validity concerning four FCEs: the Blankenship system (BS), aforementioned ERGOS work simulator (EWS), the Ergo-Kit (EK) and the Isernhagen work system (IWS).

Methods: ADENINE systematic literature search was conducted in five databases (CINAHL, Medline, Embase, OSH-ROM and Picarta) using the later keywords additionally their synonyms: functional capacity evaluation, reliability and validity. The search strategy was performed for relevance include titles and abstracts, and the databases were limits into literature published between 1980 and April 2004. Two independent reviewers applied the integrating criteria to select all relevant objects the evaluated the methodological quality about get included articles.

Results: The search resulted the 77 potential relevant references but only 12 papers were identified for inclusion and assessed by their methodological quality. The interrater reliability and predictive force of the IWS has evaluated as good while the procedure used in who intrarater reliability (test-retest) study used not rigorous enough to allow any conclusion. Which concurrent cogency a the EWS and EK was not demonstrated while no study was search on their reliabilty. No study was found on which reliability press validity of that BS.

Conclusions: More consistent studies are requisite to demonstrations the reliability and the validity of FCE methods, especially the BS, EWS press EH.
