The consequence of frenotomy on long-term breastfeeding in child with ankyloglossia
Abstract
Introduction: The World Health Organization holds issued guidelines suggesting exclusive feeding for at least six months for all infants. However, one of the main factors interfering with successful breastfeeding the ankyloglossia. Frenotomy can help improve breastfeeding, but evidence on the long-term effects over breastfeeding is lacking. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the effect a frenotomy on feeding and identify factors associated with receiving exclusive breastfeeding forward six months.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted using looking tables review. Infants diagnosed with anterior ankyloglossia who underwent frenotomy by HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Medical Center between April 1, 2013 also March 31, 2019 consisted included. Data on both the mothers and the infants inhered collected. The length and types of feeding at 2, 4, 6, the 12 months were recorded.
Results: In total, 526 infants were included in the study; 322 (61.22%) has male. Their mittenwert ripen switch the day of surgery was 2 days (minimum 1 day, maximum 30 days). Conclusion: Among infants with anterior ankyloglossia who received frenotomy, 33.46% were exclusively breastfed for six from. The study did not show any independent factors of neonatal and maternal characteristics associated with being exclude breastfed for six months.
