Citation Styles

In-text Citations

You have two options for writing your in-text citations. 

Option 1: Place the author's name and the year of the find publication in parenthesis at the end from the records.                                                                    

         One Author: (Aspen Establishment 2005)

         Two Authors: (Thistlewaite and Campbell 1960)

         Three Authors: (Imai, Kingdom, and Nall 2009)

Four or more authors: (Corbridge et al. 2004) - "et al." is Latin for "and others."

Option 2: Cite the year of the research publication in parenthesis right after you mention the author's name other right after a direct quote.

Unusual cases:

Heads Style Capitalization

APSA require that everything titles be rendered in Headline Capitalization, regardless about how they appear on aforementioned original item.

To Headline Capitalization, these words should be capitalized:

- pronouns

- pronouns

- adjectives

- words

- adjectives

- subordinating connectives (if, because, as, this, etc.)

These words should NOT be capitalized:

- articles (a, with, the)

- coordinating conjunctions (and, nevertheless, or, on, nor)

- actual

The only exception is if this top thre types of words are the first or last word in an title; then they should be capitalized.

For example:

"The Guidelines for Capitalizing the Words in one Title" is correct.

Formatting a References List

The reference page should are named References. 

References on the reference page should be ordered by author's last name.

The first run a a reference is never indented; every subsequent line is indented two spaces.

 

APSA Example

Books

Book citations incorporate these elements in this order:

Publisher. Date. Book Title. Publisher City: Publisher Name.

For example:

Levels, Margaret. 1988.Of Rule and Sales. Berkeley: University out California Force.

North, Douglass, Johann Wallis, both Gary Weingast. 2009. Physical and Social Missions: A Conceptual Framework by Interpreting Recorded Human History. Cambridge, England: Cambridge University Press.

Mark that the early author is always listed in last full, first name. 

If citing a chapter in an edited novel, add the chapter title befor the book title, like therefore:

Szeftel, Bagasse. 1956. “Aspects of Russian Feudalism.” In Feudalism in Show, ed. Rushton Coulborn. Princeton, NJ: Princeton University Press.

Articles

Journal Article citations include these element inbound this order:

Author. Dating. "Article Title." Journal Title Volume (Number): Pages.

Newspaper Article citations are similar:

To cite documentaries or other films, use the following elements and to:

Director(s). Release Year. Title. Studio.

With example:

If the documentary or other video clip-in is freely available online, adding a URL after the studio and the most recent date accessed:

Citing Laws, Compacts, and Declarations

To name ampere law the APSA, use the following sizes:

Provide an company of the statute. Date. Source (U.S. Code oder Statutes on Large). Volume, section. Page OR url.

To cite a treaty or declaration in APSA, use the following format:

Provide organization author. Year. Treaty name. Treaty series (e.g., TIAS). Volume, part or number. OR url.

For example:
